The February 2, 2015 edition of the New York Law Journal featured an article authored by CG&P founding partner Ralph Catalano. The article, entitled “Holding Funds and Property Under RPC 1.15,” discusses the all-important provisions of the Rules of Professional Conduct regarding attorney escrow accounts. More attorney suspensions and disbarments result from escrow violations than any other category of attorney misconduct, and the article provides a very helpful summary of the rules which all attorneys must follow in order to avoid such violations. Because, as the article notes, even inadvertent escrow violations can result in the discipline of attorneys, a review of the escrow rules is essential for all firms and attorneys who safeguard client funds. Ralph is past Chairman of the Nassau County Bar Association Committee on Professional Ethics, and the former Dean of the Nassau Academy of Law, the teaching arm of the Nassau County Bar Association.
