CG&P Partner Matthew Flanagan served as chair of a distinguished panel of speakers who addressed the topics of Professional Liability and Grievances at the December 15, 2014 meeting of the Theodore Roosevelt American Inn of Court. The panel included Abraham Krieger, Chairman of The Grievance Committee for the Tenth Judicial District; the Honorable John Kase, former acting Supreme Court Justice and Supervising Judge to the Criminal Courts of Nassau County; and Evelyn Kalenscher, former Chair of the Ethics Committee of the Nassau County Bar Association. Using a hypothetical real estate transaction, the panel discussed the ethical challenges which practicing attorneys face, and with the assistance of Justice Peter Skelos of the Appellate Division, Second Department, the panel examined the grievance process from the perspective of both the Tenth Judicial District Grievance Committee and the Appellate Division. Lastly, the panel discussed the differences between the grievance process and legal malpractice actions. The audience and the panelists engaged in a lively and informative discussion of the challenging topics addressed by the panel, and all in attendance received two ethics CLE credits.
